What video conferencing means is live visual streaming of audio and video, creating a communication channel between two or more remote locations. In simple words, it is a visual communication between two or more participants located remotely.

How video conferencing works?

To understand video conferencing let's take an analogy. What will you do if you are given the task of transferring a huge inflatable sofa to any other location? In the case of video conferencing, the webcam and microphone capture audio/video (AV) signals in the form of frequencies and amplitudes. If we transfer these signals in its original form then it would require a huge bandwidth (remember truck?).

Thus, to smoothen the transfer and make the process easier, it also takes a similar approach. The process of video conferencing undergoes 3 steps- compressing, transfer, and decompressing.

At first, these signals are compressed into data packets (removing the air) and then transferred over the internet by a video conferencing software to the other end(s). On the receiving side, it gains back its originality through the process of decompressing (refilling the air).
